A year ago, Iowa City was designated a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization City of Literature.
However, the Iowa City area has yet to realize the full potential of the designation it took officials three years to obtain, officials said.
"I can't say it has impacted the area all that great as of yet," Iowa City/Coralville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau President Josh Schamberger said.

A University of Iowa committee that represents employees on health care has asked UI President Sally Mason to abolish rather than just delay a philanthropic plan aimed at outpatients of University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Under criticism, UI delayed implementation and is reviewing the plan that was to begin this winter.
The plan was to ask UIHC outpatients to sign a consent form at check-in.

Wallace Loh and Tom Rocklin gave the people of Iowa the same old baloney in their Nov. 11 guest opinion on the University of Iowa's out-of-control student drinking problem.
This time Loh, as provost, and Rocklin, as the acting vice president for student services, were promoting their new "town/gown partnership for alcohol safety."
